South Africa’s first democratic government was elected in 1994 with a clear mandate to redress the inequalities of the past in every sphere: political, social and economic. In 2003, the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) strategy was published as a precursor to the B-BBEE Act, No. 53 of 2003. The fundamental objective of the Act is to advance economic transformation and enhance the participation of previously disadvantaged groups in the South African economy (DTI , 2014).

In this regard, The PLI Group has a stated objective to contribute to the upliftment of the communities in which we operate through our corporate social responsibility and investment initiatives.  We use our expertise, partnerships and financial resources to help facilitate the establishment of thriving communities that improve people’s lives, and thereby contribute to the development of our country. We intend to drive the process of transformation through the various structures established within the organisation to ensure the implementation of plans, guidelines and different interventions as vehicles for delivering transformational goals.

Our CSRI programmes are developmental in nature, and are focused on providing assistance and upliftment to communities in the areas in which we operate. We aim to create an environment where people are safe, inspired, productive, empowered and skilled to ultimately live better lives. Further, we aim to create a great place of work, to continuously upskill our staff, to build a sustainable organisation, and to develop opportunities for children and young people to reach their full potential.
